In What Job Did You Have the Most Fun?
Do you remember a job that was so much fun that you couldn’t wait to go to work? Where everything hummed because you were working hard, getting it done and people enjoyed each other? Are you in that job now? Do you remember how this feels?
If not, there is a way to get there again. You could quit, probably not your first option. You could speak up and stir things up to get others to change. Probably risky if other people don’t think anything is awry. OR, you could take a look at what you are bringing to the job and change that, even today.
Working hard and having fun are not in opposition with each other. In fact they are great pals. The big secret to the two working together is you. Here are some quick tips to make your current work the most fun ever.
- Start you day with a smile before you ever leave your home. Know that the work you do is important, no matter what it is.
- Plan to have a great day. Think long and hard about the great things that can and will get done today. Plan for them all to go well.
- Figure out how you can make the day great for everyone around you. What can you do to make others feel better about themselves and their work?
- Keep your perspective around grumpy and upset individuals. Nine times out of ten it isn’t you they are mad at and you can help them by just listening.
- Laugh more. Find a good website for jokes, (www.gcfl.net, as an example), and use these to brighten up the tough spots
- Be colorful in your clothes, your notes, your work area
- Be nice, enough said
- Do something to relieve the stress and tedium. Blow bubbles, meditate for a few minutes, laugh by reading or thinking of something fun, walk outside, ask if you can help someone who is swamped.
- Speak well of others and open your ears. Be a great listener and share only good news.
- Write down all the reasons the work you do makes a difference in the world
- Thank someone for something, anything
- Thank yourself, for the good you do
- Add some good to the workplace. Do more, do something out of the ordinary that will help someone else.
- Put on a red nose and walk to the restroom. Accept the smiles of the people who see you.
- Give you your best to each thing you do
- Bring a hat to meetings and put it on, if the group gets stuck to lighten up the tension and clear minds
- Write with a pen that is fun to hold and see
- Thank you boss/supervisor/manager for their help
- Appreciate the gift you give in the work you do
- Find everything right about where you work and write it down. Post it where you and everyone else can see it.
Have fun again.
